The Antiques at the Pinang Peranakan Mansion   4 comments

The Antiques at the Pinang Peranakan Mansion are from the excellent collection of the owner of the Pinang Peranakan Mansion.
These antiques are found in a local mansion converted to a sort of museum for tourists. It is located at Church Street, George Town, Penang, Malaysia and actually opposite the Swiss multi-national company known as Diethelm Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. where I worked as their employee for 32 years. The office had shifted from there to Ayer Itam many years ago. As a former British colony, as expected you find things of British origin like the glass-wares, silverware and marble statues.
Welcome to Penang, Malaysia as the State Capital – George Town is also a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site, a multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural place made up of migrants from China, India and the local Malays.Next week we in the Photographic Society of Penang shall be welcoming 400 photographers from 12 countries to Penang for a Photographic Journey. Thaipusam. an Indian Hindu celebrations where thousands of coconuts are crushed on the roads for the Golden Chariot of Lord Muruga’s journey from town to another temple at Penang Botanic Garden, shall be in full swing then.

From Wikipedia:
An antique (Latin: antiquus; “old”, “ancient”) is an old collectable item. It is collected or desirable because of its age, beauty, rarity, condition, utility, personal emotional connection, and/or other unique features. It is an object that represents a previous era or time period in human society.
It is common practice to define “antique” as applying to objects at least 100 years old.
Antiques are usually objects that show some degree of craftsmanship—or a certain attention to design, such as a desk or an early automobile. They are bought at antique shops, estate sales, auction houses, online auctions, and other venues, or estate inherited. Antique dealers often belong to national trade associations, many of which belong to CINOA, a confederation of art and antique associations across 21 countries that represents 5,000 dealers.
