“Nearly everything seafood” – the choice is up to you with the selction of fresh fishes from the sea. Expensive groupers, cheaper cat-fish, soles, pomfrets, sting-rays, and many other varieties are available here.

My choice is that of our guests from Kuala Lumpur and host enjoying a simple seafood dinner made up of fishes like fried soles, steamed sting-ray in spices, “ladies finger” beans in spicy chillies and onions, deep-fried sliced squids, fried instant Japanese mee. mussels, and fruit juices at a local restaurant. This dinner for 6 persons at this seafood restaurant cost about RM 130.00 (or around US $ 32.00). As the more expensive items like crabs and prawns were not ordered, thus amount of the final bill is lesser. With the last two items like prawns or shrimps and swamp or sea crabs, the bill will definitely be tripled.

The days of cheap seafood dinner have disappeared as prices of seafood had spiralled to very high level. Some of the local fishes, crabs, tiger prawns are exported overseas. So, the local residents shall enjoy the second graded stuff that were not exported.

I was in Palm Springs, California, staring at some Dr. Seuss-esque flora from a distance, when I realized that (1) the small dark shape hovering near the blossoms was not, in fact, some kind of giant hideous desert bug, but a hummingbird, and (2) I had apparently never seen a hummingbird in real life before.

For several afternoons, my camera and I stalked it; it (he? she?) seemed to particularly enjoy the hours between four and six for an evening’s nosh. With a bit of patience, a bit of luck, and a very fast shutter speed, I eventually got a few shots of my tiny, frenetically flapping, non-bug friend, including this one of the bird hovering at the far tip of a row of small blooms, sipping from the penultimate flower.
