Details

Jet Leang Dance Theatre (JLDT) is a young contemporary dance company officially founded by Jet Leang in the year of 2018 and based in Penang, Malaysia. Jet Leang has been involved in numerous productions locally and internationally as a dancer, choreographer, costume designer, lighting designer, and stage manager. With the experience he has obtained throughout his dance journey, he decided to be back at his home ground to contribute to the dance scene. Jet Leang has taken up the challenge of art education by setting up a company in Penang to provide the knowledge of what and how it is like to be a professional dancer and choreographer in a full time company to the public in Penang. On behalf of JLDT, he has a desire to offer a visceral journey which shakes inner emotions through dancing to everyone.

Dance Synopsis

‘WTF!?’
JLDT proudly presents the production ‘WTF!?’ co-presented with the Performing Arts Centre of Penang. ‘WTF!?’ is an en pointe contemporary ballet piece choreographed by Jet Leang. This choreography explores the concept ‘build to destroy, destroy to rebuild?’. In the process of exploration, Jet looks into the past, present, and future to reflect on the purpose of what has been built and what has been destroyed. Through the process of destroying, he questions whether the purpose to destroy is to rebuild – or for nothing.

Jet Leang

Syiok Sendiri 9: Power of Pombele!

Public · Hosted by Syiok Sendiri Comedy and Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac)

DetailsThe Malaysian hit comedy-variety show returns with their ninth instalment! Can you believe that? NINTH?! That just goes to show that even in New Malaysia, the country and its people continues to be a treasure trove of endless comedy material. This time, the show is themed “Power of Pombele” to commemorate International Women’s Day.

As usual, expect a no holds barred, roller coaster ride with a smidgen of political incorrectness. Purchasing tickets is not recommended if you’re a delicate little snowflake. Speaking of money – yes, ticket prices have gone up a tad bit. “But, WHY?!”, you ask? What tempurung have you been living under?! It’s the trendy thing to do. Everyone is increasing prices for everything, so we figured we should jump on that bandwagon too. See you at the theatre, boys and girls!

#SS9pop features Daniel de Silva, Desmond “Big D” Ngooi, Sotorng Lim, Grayden Goon, and introducing Karam Tabba.

Fa Abdul’s Tales From Malaysia Baru | 新馬來西亞軼事   Leave a comment

+++

Fa Abdul‘s Tales From Malaysia Baru | 新馬來西亞軼事 is a two-hour play set in an old Chinese house in the heart of George Town. It tells the colourful story of Aunty Kang, a 65 year-old tailor and her nosy, dark-skinned ‘Malay’ neighbour, Kak Kiah who dwell on what’s not right in Malaysia one fine hazy afternoon. They are soon joined by Aunty Kang’s son, Ah Boon, and Nathan, a fellow neighbour.

This remake of Big Nose Productions‘ 2013 blockbuster In a Nutty Shell digs deeper into the dynamics and complex layers of relationships among and between Bolehland’s race-based citizenry in the context of a new political climate.The script is strategically timed to reflect Malaysians’ current ‘wait-and-see’ approach to judging the new government and its policies, while also taking aim at the reluctance of many Malaysians to see this as a time for change within their own mindsets.

Idiosyncrasy and idiocy take turns to show themselves in the energetic banter of the lead characters. Aloyah Bakar (Aloyah Varleite), Sharmila Kanagalingam, Lawrence Chin and Ivan Alexander Francis Gabriel headline this production – a cast of home grown local theatre favourites, while Tan Seoh Chen, Roshini Chandran and Nicholas Fletcher play multiple supporting roles
