Developing Your Eye, Day Four: “Bliss”
My idea of “Bliss” is simple and that is to produce a good photograph with good framing and exposure. It is taken in a peaceful mood and environment, coupled with good sunlight, well focused and happily surrounded by fellow friendly photographers. This photograph of a wall mural was taken in town of Balik Pulau which is about one hour from my home in Pulau Tikus. This town is more rural in nature and a must place to visit during the durians’ season. Hopefully, you appreciate this photograph so taken in a blissful manner. The wall mural depicts the Malay Martial Art called Silat.

Developing Your Eye, Day Four: “Bliss”
What is your idea of bliss? Is it an image of your family, laughing at the dinner table? A state of total relaxation, while lying on the beach? Your latest painting, drying on the canvas?
A book lover might swoon over this sight of old books and a grand staircase in the library of Dublin’s Trinity College:
What is bliss to you?
Today’s Tip: See the short description under the photo? That’s a caption. Today, add a caption to your image so viewers know what they’re looking at!

The church in a small town of Balik Pulau, Penang
Though Malaysia has Islam as the Official Religion of the country, the non-Muslim section of the Malaysian population also practise other religions like Christianity, Hinduism. Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism and others. I am a Buddhist who also observe Taoist rituals and prayers due to traditional ancestral belief.
Balik Pulau (literally meaning “back of the island” in Malay) is a town in Southwestern part of Penang Island, Malaysia. The town is most famous for natural local agricultural produce like Durians and Nutmegs. A visit to the town will be incomplete if there is no visit to the wet market and food court for the food like laksa, pasembur, and nutmeg juice.
However, Monday is not a good day to visit this town for my recent trip here as most stalls selling pickled fruits, fish fritters, spicy potato chips, belachan, and local procusts are closed for the day for rest. Anyway, my main objective in Balik Pulau was to shoot the wall murals and other interesting places like the Church.
The Church of the Holy Name of Jesus is the mother church of the Society of Jesus.

Balik Pulau’s Silversmith Wall Mural by Ernest Zacharevic completed on November 25. 2014.
The Silversmith Mural is a mural “drawn” by Ernest Zacharevic in Balik Pulau. It was painted or rather crafted by the Lithuanian artist using a method he called “reverse graffiti” methodology. Completed on 25 November, 2014 and it was executed by removing off certain portions of the existing coat of grim and dirt on the wall. The image is washed out of the aged wall using a water pressure pump. This wall mural is Mr Zacharevic’s last piece of creative work for the Urban National Project of Urban Xchange Art Festival in Penang. The subject of the mural is based on a local retired silversmith of Balik Pulau, and hence the wall mural is popularly known as the Balik Pulau’s Silversmith Wall Mural.
Balik Pulau (literally meaning back of the island) is a town in Penang, Malaysia. This small town is most famous for the durians during the durian fruit season and reputed to produce the best durians in Malaysia.
Monday is not a good day to visit Balik Pulau as most shops in the wet market are closed. Anyway we were there to shoot two current wall murals by the female Russian street artist Julia Volchkova, 28, who was born in Siberia, Russia and also Silversmith Wall Mural by Ernest Zacharevic. The two wall murals are namely “Fisherman” and “Silat” – the Malay Martial Art.
She also painted the wall murals of an Indian boatman at Stewart Lane, the child at Prangin Road and Indian woman in prayers at Lumut Lane, George Town, Penang. Currently from the local residents, she is taking a rest after the visit from her mother.

Silat the Wall Mural at Balik Pulau, Penang, Malaysia. Do you note the difference in the photographs ? The wall mural is taken with two windows opened. Later, we spoke politely to the house owner uncle to close the windows for our photo-shoot. Thank you kindly, sir.
The last comment I wish to make is that of certain car drivers, male or female, please be considerate enough NOT to park your car/s infront of the wall mural/s while photographer/s is/are shooting. I notice some two car drivers so far on that day as they parked in front the wall murals even there are empty and vacant car park lots nearby.
